Since February, Twilio's product and engineering teams have accelerated our work to provide you with regionalized products and features that help you achieve compliance and reduce the risk of cross-border data movement around the world. We have significantly accelerated our regional efforts to ensure you can respond proactively and have also taken advantage of what we see as a unique opportunity to resolve future regulatory changes once and for all. As we look to the third quarter, we are ready to begin delivering to you the value created as a result of this work. Third Quarter 2021 Update During the second and third quarter, our teams worked on key product, infrastructure, billing and data access control initiatives to prepare for the launch of our pilot program in Australia, which launched in September. This pilot includes the Twilio Programmable Voice, Elastic SIP Trunking and Voice Client SDK products and extends the Twilio infrastructure in Australia.
The pilot program is a critical step, paving the way for our team to regionalize Twilio into new geographies, particularly Europe at the end of next quarter. It also ensures that every interaction you have with your customers delivers the same level of trust and reliability you expect from the Twilio platform. As part of this effort, Twilio is introducing data centers in job title email list separate and distinct geographic locations to enable data residency, reduce latency, and provide configurable reliability to further mitigate the risk of a single event affecting all Twilio services around the world. Ultimately, this allows you to build and operate your most latency-sensitive applications while meeting local data residency requirements.
Additionally, we have operationalized Twilio Ireland as our final billing and outsourcing subsidiary. Since August, new European Twilio customers with a phone number or billing country in the region are automatically contracted through our subsidiary Twilio Ireland. We are actively working to extend it to existing European customers and will provide updates as we progress. This represents an important first step in addressing the privacy concerns of our customers in Europe. Fourth Quarter 2021 Update This quarter, we're excited to announce that we've launched a data center in Ireland, and that Twilio Voice, our first publicly regionalized channel in the European region, is now generally available in Ireland! The availability of this data center gives you control over where the data is physically stored, allowing you to keep personal data at rest in the region of your choice.
